FAQ's

Are you thinking of booking but have a few questions? You've come to the right page!  We get asked a lot of the same questions by clients who have never booked live music before or planned an event (sometimes even if you have!).  These are the most Frequently Asked Questions.  Hopefully this will fill you with confidence before booking with us, but if there's anything else you want to ask that you can't see covered here then please do get in touch and we will help and advise however we can.

How do I book?

If you've found a band or artist you're interested in booking then the best way of starting the booking procedure is to fill in a form on the contact page.  Try to give as much detail as possible about your event. For example; date, venue, times you want the band to play and which act you are most interested in.  If you can't decide between a few then put them all on the form as they will all charge different prices and your first choice may not be available on the date of your event.  You will then receive an email with a personalised quote.  If you'd like to go ahead with a booking then we will draw up a contract which will be signed by you and your act.  Once you have signed the contract and paid the booking fee to Boogie Oogie Entertainments, your date will be secured and your booking will be confirmed.  The remaining fee will normally be invoiced directly by your act.

What if I change my mind or I need to cancel?

As with all online purchases, you are entitled to a 14 day cooling off period.  That means if you change your mind then you will receive your booking fee back.

Will I get the band members in the video?

We will always strive to provide you with the musicians you have seen in the video.  However, most of our bands have lots of well-trained and equally as competent 'dep' musicians.  This means that if a member of the band is ill, the show must go on!  There will be a professional musician to take their place & keep your party grooving!  In the rare occasion that the band or artist you have booked can't make it for reasons beyond everyone's control then we here at Boogie Oogie Entertainments will work tirelessly to find you a replacement band.  This is one of the many benefits of booking with our agency!

Can I choose the songs?

Our musicians have years of experience crafting their set lists and know what songs go well at different types of event and for different audiences. You can find examples of the songs each band or artist knows on their profile pages.  Although these are not extensive and these lists are constantly added to, so if there is a particular song you want then it's best to ask as they may well already know it!  Musicians are usually happy to send you a list so you can choose if there are particular songs you would like, and ones you definitely don't want!  If your favourite song isn't on the list then most of our bands are happy to learn requests. Some will learn one or two songs free of charge (especially a first dance for your wedding), however some may charge an additional fee to account for practise and rehearsal time.

What time will the band arrive?

Timings of the day will be arranged with you.  Depending on the size of your band, it is common for bands to arrive up to 2 hours before they are due to play.  Smaller acts will need less time to set up.  If you need the band to be set up by a certain time then you will need to let them know.  If you are hoping for the band to be set up much earlier in the day then additional charges may apply for the down-time the band will have waiting to play for you. Don't forget the band will need to sound-check before they play (usually the time it takes to play one song).

How much space will the band need?

This will depend on the size of the band but this is a good rule of thumb:

  • 3-piece - 3x3m

  • 4-piece - 4x3m

  • 5/6-piece - 5x3m

  • 7-piece  - 6x4m

Will I need to hire a stage or lights?

A stage always looks cool but isn't necessary.  However, if you are outside or in a marquee it will be worth making sure you have a flat surface for the band to perform on, particularly the drummer.  Most bands have all the party lights you will need to light up the musicians as well as your dance floor but you can always check with the band if you want something particular.  All of our bands have their own PA systems and will provide their own sound. If you are running a big public event then you will probably want to consider organising a sound engineer and bigger scale equipment.  This is also helpful if you have more than one act performing after each other.

How much power will the band need?

Most bands will require 2-3 independent 13 amp sockets.  However, if your band is outside you may need to hire a generator - particularly if you are having caterers or other vendors that will also need power.  Please remember that if your event is outside then the band will need cover in case of bad weather so that there is no danger to the musicians or their expensive equipment getting ruined.

Will the band play music in their breaks?

All of our acts are very happy to provide complimentary music through their PA system for you when they are not playing.  Some of our acts can also offer a DJ service at an additional cost.

Do I need to feed the band?

We always ask that you provide the act with soft drinks throughout their time with you.  Playing & singing can be thirsty work.  Depending on how long the band are with you, it is always greatly appreciated if you can provide the band with some food.  They are often working long hours, travelling to you, lugging heavy equipment about and then playing.  They will often miss normal dinner times & are often performing whilst your guests are eating and drinking.  If you are booking entertainment for your wedding, speak to your venue as most will offer a supplier meal at a much cheaper cost than your guest prices.

our venue has a sound limiter. can I still have a band?

Yes!  This is best discussed with your venue as it will depend on where the limiter is situated but we have had 7-piece bands with brass sections successfully performing at events with sound limiters so it can be done!  However, some venues will stipulate that bands must use an electric drum kit.  Make an enquiry to see which of our bands can accommodate this request.  If in doubt, an acoustic musician or group may be a more suitable option.  Check out our acoustic acts here.
